When reading this article about grading it hit home on a lot of things that I do in my classroom. For example, points for attempt and completion, I always make sure to give my students some points if they attempt an assignment. I also try to keep my classroom up to date, talking about what is going on in the world and to let my students ask questions that they may not feel comfortable asking elsewhere.
Great article...it articulates a lot of what we have been discussing in my school, as our grading practices are evoloving. I like the author's idea of giving some points for attempts and "trying"; he is 100% correct that secondary students don't like to practice something unless there is a point value attached! While this goes against some theories, I happen to agree with it myself :)
